Sheridan County jobs are plentiful these days, and the area reports an
unemployment rate of less than three percent. Jobs in many sectors
including energy development, education, health care, and service
industries desperately need employees to fill them. The biggest
problem Sheridan area employees face is not finding work, but
affordable housing.

The advent of coal bed methane production in the Sheridan area has
created hundreds of new jobs. New retail operations such as Walmart
and Home Depot have created hundreds more. Education jobs in
Sheridan County number close to 1,000, including three school
districts and a junior college.

The Sheridan Memorial Hospital employees 450 workers, and the
Veteran’s Administration Hospital employs over 400. The drug and
alcohol rehabilitation industry is growing in the Sheridan area as well,
employing nearly 200 professionals. The health care industry will
likely grow in the area as the area’s population ages. Sheridan is a
growing retirement destination.

Exciting new developments in the Sheridan job market include the
development of a new coal mine at Young’s Creek north of Sheridan,
and the new Rockwell Petroleum headquarters that is being built on
5th street. These two operations alone will add hundreds of new jobs
to the area.
